Industry, academia and beyond
We work with a broad group of industries, enterprises and institutions, from public safety to railways, from large enterprises to energy and water companies, and from healthcare to academic institutions, amongst others.
We also continued our Corporate University Donations program in 2019. Read more below.
And we collaborate with a variety of academic institutions through Nokia Bell Labs, through the Distinguished Academic Partner Program.
Our Corporate University Donations program
Our Corporate University Donations program is in addition to all the long-term research related work we do with academic institutions.
In 2019 we made a number of corporate university donations targeting 18 research projects in 18 universities around the world.
Under our Corporate University Donations program we sponsor high quality research in areas that are close to our business interests, such as relating to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and future 6G, or indirectly, such as with other sectors where ICT and digital communications will play a key role. One example is a project that aims to choose a single, well-defined application of non-invasive healthcare monitoring, and design for high benefit and ease-of-use to encourage transition to the new era of healthy living companion robots.
We balance our long term research between the technology and human focused scientific research, for instance while developing new technologies for connected robots we study the intersections of technology and human needs using a multidisciplinary approach.
Digital skills collaboration
We announced collaboration with two leading universities in Ethiopia to promote digital skills and innovation. The collaboration is with two of the most recognized universities for science and engineering in Ethiopia, the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) and the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAiT), to provide training on the latest technologies and industry trends.
Where humans and machines meet
Our complete end-to-end portfolio combined with incredible Nokia Bell Labs innovations provide a major leap forward for industry where human-machine interaction is the norm and intelligence is everywhere.
Living the benefits of Industry 4.0
The digitalization of our 5G Oulu factory was recognized by the World Economic Forum as an “Advanced 4th Industrial Revolution Lighthouse. Designed to showcase Industry 4.0 concepts for the manufacturing of our 4G and 5G base stations, the “factory of the future” in Oulu leverages our private (4.9G/LTE) wireless networks for secure and reliable connectivity for all assets within and outside the factory, IoT analytics running on Edge cloud, and areal-time digital twin of operations data.
Enabling efficient transport systems
Transportation companies can intelligently automate operations and proactively manage and maintain assets – achieving the full benefits of Industrial IoT and seamless connectivity –more efficient, climate-friendly and safer.
Digitalizing cities is smart
Cities around the globe are moving forward with plans and strategies to develop as smart cities of the future but how do they increase efficiency and responsiveness to citizen needs while reducing costs and ensuring a sustainable, safe city environment with applications that unify and allow management of smart city services, devices and applications.
